The electronic Indian visa can be obtained entirely online with no visits to the Embassy made during the application process.

Moreover, the processing of the Indian eVisa takes maximally 72 hours and the applications submitted are reviewed only during business days.

That is why, it’s crucial to submit one’s India eVisa application at least 3 business days before the planned departure or if possible - earlier.

Travellers can choose from five different India eVisa types that differ in terms of the length of the stay allowed, purpose of travel, and validity period.

Types of India e-Visa

Indian e-Visa system offers 5 different types of electronic visas. Eligible travelers can choose the one that best suits their travel needs, visit India for certain purposes and stay there for various periods of time.

Among the available e-Visa types, there are:

  1. a single-entry tourist e-Visa for a 1-month stay
  2. a multiple-entry business e-Visa for a 6-month stay
  3. a triple-entry medical e-Visa for a 2-month stay
  4. a multiple-entry tourism e-Visa for a 1-year stay
  5. a multiple-entry 5-year e-Visa for numerous 90-day visits

Important note: Travelers from Japan and the US are permitted to 6-month stay in India as holders of a 5-year e-Visa type.

What you need to apply for India e-Visa

Necessary documents
  • a passport that will remain valid for at least 6 months from the date of your planned trip to India
  • the applicant’s face photo

Supporting documents

Those who will travel for medical or business reasons must additionally attach the following:

  • a written document issued by the medical institution or hospital in India with details of the planned medical treatment (only for medical treatment travel purposes)
  • an invitation letter issued by the Indian business partner or its business card (only for business trips)

e-Visa Online Application Instruction

  1. First of all, select one e-Visa type to India that best matches your Indian travel plans.
  2. Next, prepare all the necessary documents, make sure you have a working electronic device and stable Internet connection, and then go to the application form.
  3. Fill out the online form, enter all the required information and make sure you have not made any mistakes when entering it.
  4. After double-checking all the details, choose one of the available methods of online payment and cover the service fee.
  5. Go to your email inbox, refresh your email address and check for the confirmation email that should arrive in your inbox as soon your payment is processed successfully.

After maximally 72 business hours, the approved e-Visa to India will be sent to your email address too.

Please note that the processing time may take a bit longer due to various reasons, including making some mistakes in your online form. The final decision to approve your visa application is at the total discretion of the Indian authorities.

Once you receive your e-Visa in PDF form, make sure to download it and print it out. Do not forget to take its physical copy for your trip to India!
